Earth

Pine  -  Hawthorn  -  Wild Cherry

East Lothian farmland

Stones -  cones - pieces of shell - dry earth

I like looking down, looking at detail ....

The structure of the surface here reminds me of American artist Jan Henle's photo sketches.

Exhibition catalogue cover 1988

The work was created on the island of St.Croix in the West Indies, where Henle grew up.
He meticulously worked land with a plow and shovel then photographed the results.
As in East Lothian, pieces of shell appear on the surface.

I thought it would be interesting to make a virtual connection by photographing shells from neighbouring islands of
St.Kitts and Antigua on the St.Croix land image ....

I've had these shells and for years - today they want to communicate!

Thank you for visiting

I so like the way you show a landscape then home in on details and the idea of contrasting your photos with Jan Helne's images really works. Especially these gorgeous shells with the background of his earth photos.
Greetings on May Day!

All of us need to look at nature more closely---we learn a lot.
I was digging up in the mountains here and found shell fossils in the stone

Dear Ruby - How beautiful the white wild cherry blossoms! I haven’t tried to take photos of only ground, mud, gravels, stones, weathered grass, and so on. But you taught me something here. Lovely collection of shells. The image of the assorted shells is so artistic. Have healthy and happy days ahead.

I accidentally discovered this blog, while surfing the internet and I am glad I did. I have seen Scotland in pictures and in movies only, but this is a real experience through your blog. I love nature and your blog is an Eden of it.
